Who’s in Command?

Sorrow and memories of loved ones that have passed on can overwhelm our hearts at times. As firefighters, we don’t like to admit that we lose control of ourselves as we are a model of control amidst chaos to others.

We have before us a decision to make in these conflagrations of emotions:
We can embrace and face the pain.
-or-
We can suppress the pain only to have it rekindle once again in our lives causing even more collateral damage.
So many people are touched by the actions of first responders today. Lives are saved, fears are calmed, and normalcy is restored amidst crisis.
We have an often untapped and underused resource for ourselves when we are in need of rescue. His name is Jesus Christ. He goes to the Father on our behalf. And He understands!
Consider the fact that there are also those who never stop praying for us:
“Since the day we heard of you, we have not stopped praying for you.” 1 Colossians 1:3
We will face moments of emotional instability and pain but dear friends we are not alone. Our brothers & sisters lift us up in prayer and Jesus Christ hears those prayers!
He offers us all the “peace that passes understanding” which is peace in our hearts while the storms of our lives rage on. As a firefighter trusts in those around them amidst the flames so we must put an even greater trust in our true Incident Commander: Jesus Christ.
Even if we have accepted Him as our Savior, many of us have not let Him take Command of our hearts. Let us not freelance any more with our hearts & lives. Let us all put our trust and hope in the one who has already rescued us from the greatest fire.
God Bless,
Andy J. Starnes
